2003: The anti-theft device

Bullock - The anti-theft device with balls

How the project came about

The idea came to engineers Antonio De Leo and Antonio Macchini, who patented an enhanced, automatically activated version of an anti-theft pedal-lock that was already on the market. The addition of stabilising balls at either end guaranteed that this system would work with all different types of vehicles.

Our input

The engineers created a prototype and then came to us for consultancy services. After a careful analysis of the market, we decided to invest directly in the discovery by acquiring the patent and setting up a small start-up company to deal specifically with its manufacture. The practicality of this mechanical anti-theft device (which can be activated with just one hand), along with the appropriateness of the communication strategy and the impact of the marketing campaign, made it a tremendous success. In just a few years, the Bullock has sold more than 3.5 million units.

Why was it successful?

The effectiveness of the product was demonstrated in a series of tests, featured in various European magazines, which pitted the Bullock against the leading anti-theft devices. The Bullock came out on top, taking 17 minutes to break, as opposed to an average of 3 minutes for its competitors.
